- Can the rug go in the washing machine?
- No. The rug is hand-woven and the illustrations are painted on by hand, so the care is spot cleaning — lift stains with a damp cloth. A machine wash would damage the artwork. If the whole rug needs cleaning, it can be soaked.
- Does a new rug have a smell?
- The natural dyes can give a faint earthy smell at first. It goes once the rug has been spread out to air — usually overnight. There is none of the plastic smell of synthetic rugs.
- Does the rug slip on a hard floor?
- On a hard floor we recommend an anti-slip pad underneath. Without one the rug can shift or crease while a child plays on it. On top of carpet it stays put on its own.
- How thick is the rug?
- It is a woven cotton rug, not a foam-backed play mat — so it is thin and rolls up easily, which is what makes it simple to store or take along. If it is going on a hard floor and your child plays there for long stretches, a padded underlay is worth adding.
- What is the rug made of?
- 100% cotton, hand-woven, with the illustrations painted on by hand. Made and painted in Estonia. A plastic-free choice for a nursery.

The item was exactly as pictured! Beautiful vibrant print and my son already loves playing with his cars on it. We put it on top of a cushioned playmat so it doesn’t slip around too much. But it’s lightweight so easy to food up or move between his room and living room depending on where we want to play. I love that he can have fun with a car rug like I did as a child, except it’s safer material and more aesthetic than the ones I had as a kid.

Beautiful rug! The whimsy of including the Lochness Monster in the lake was what caught my eye. This is a gorgeous addition to our playroom. My little one fell in love immediately upon seeing it and set about unearthing every single vehicle he had in the house and putting each one on the various roads and paths (there was quite a traffic jam of MarioKarts and Cookie Monster had a hard time getting to his destination). He rolls it up himself each night and makes sure it is stored safely. After searching for weeks for a safe and non-toxic rug, I finally found this one! I wanted a rug made out of safe materials with no flame retardants. I purchased the large rug to go in the play room, and it’s so perfect! I love how generously sized the rug is, the vibrant colors, how well made it is and that my daughter is having countless hours of fun. Not only do I feel comfortable with her playing on it, but it’s also beautiful!

This item is so creative, was a Christmas gift for my 2 year old & 6 month old. We’ve already spilt applesauce on it and it wiped right off. So much cooler than the traditional green car rug.
