- Can the rug go in the washing machine?
- No. The rug is hand-woven and the illustrations are painted on by hand, so the care is spot cleaning — lift stains with a damp cloth. A machine wash would damage the artwork. If the whole rug needs cleaning, it can be soaked.
- Does a new rug have a smell?
- The natural dyes can give a faint earthy smell at first. It goes once the rug has been spread out to air — usually overnight. There is none of the plastic smell of synthetic rugs.
- Does the rug slip on a hard floor?
- On a hard floor we recommend an anti-slip pad underneath. Without one the rug can shift or crease while a child plays on it. On top of carpet it stays put on its own.
- How thick is the rug?
- It is a woven cotton rug, not a foam-backed play mat — so it is thin and rolls up easily, which is what makes it simple to store or take along. If it is going on a hard floor and your child plays there for long stretches, a padded underlay is worth adding.
- What is the rug made of?
- 100% cotton, hand-woven, with the illustrations painted on by hand. Made and painted in Estonia. A plastic-free choice for a nursery.
